OUR FOUNDER

        As Director of this amazing dance company Genesis Dance, I take pride in providing a high quality dance program to Queens, NY. It was important for me to prepare dancers for lifelong careers in dance. I also want to foster an appreciation of dance that will motivate and inspire the next generation of leaders in the community. 

        Genesis Dance is the vision of one young woman to enrich the lives of the children within her community.  As a young girl she practiced dance in Queens, NY where she began to form her true love of the art.  Dance had opened up a new world to Kysha and it was at this point that she decided to actually start to teach children the same art that had truly captivated her life.        

         Eventually she realized that she wanted to teach the youth of her Rochdale Village community the fundamentals of dance that she so loved.  Mrs. Barnett felt that it was important to provide a creative and affordable outlet for girls and boys of all ages.  She began in the Rochdale Village Community Center with only a hand full of students.  That year her first dance recital was a major success thus Genesis Dance was born.  

         In 2009, after almost 15 years of service, Genesis Dance expanded to its OWN STUDIO in Rosedale, Queens.  Even in their new home Genesis Dance continues to thrive.  The dance school has also had an influx of students from all over Queens, NY eager to work with a company that exemplifies a top notch dance student with an even more impeccable human characteristic.

        Genesis Dance has recently celebrated 27 years in dance.  To celebrate this momentous occasion there were year long events to mark this occasion.  Not too many dance companies can say they have been in existence that long and there seems to be no end in sight.  

         As Director of this amazing dance company Genesis Dance, Mrs Barnett provides technique and training in various dance genres.  Ballet, Modern, Tap, and jazz.  Genesis Dance also emphasizes cultural dance and history.  African American culture is cultivated through African Dance and Hip Hop.  So not only do students learn about dance and technique, they also learn about their own culture.

            We celebrate Mrs. Barnett for everything she has contributed to the world of dance.
